big city, quaint life… my fondness for Fort Worth runs deep. I went to college, met my very best friends and really became much of who I am in this city. It warms my heart. It’s a big vibrant metropolitan area that has the endearing charm of a small town. Everyone is welcome and it’s always good friends and good times.
I’m sure I will post frequently about places in this favorite “small” town of mine, anything from food to culture, BUT, wait for it…because first is the shopping, the thing I love to do most and the one thing that you may not hear much about. There are tons of great little pockets of stores tucked in and around Fort Worth.

how does she do that… I met Julia Rothman a few years ago when she came to Dallas to judge our regional graphic design show. She struck me right away as this young, incredibly talented, down-to-earth person. Since then I have watched Julia’s career soar. I adore everything she makes. She is an exceedingly brilliant pattern maker and as a designer, I envy people who can think like that. The ability to repeat a pattern is tricky, and the intricacy of her patterns is incredible.

everything that glitters is not gold… but in the world of Todd Fiscus and Rob Dailey, everything they touch turns to gold. everyone loves a secret… Sacred Cellars is a wine concierge service, which I’m a huge fan of…wine, right to my front door? Where do I sign? But it’s also kind of a speakeasy, they call it the Secret Hideout. I went last week for the first time not knowing what to expect.
It’s a small converted warehouse space located near Love Field in what we’ll call an “interesting area.” A lot of deserted cars back up to this cute little patio and I’m quite certain there are many “deals” going on near this scene. Follow the random sign with an arrow reading “sacred.” There’s no sign on the front door, just above, and you enter through the side door where there may be a taped xerox sign if you’re lucky, but maybe not. Don’t bother ringing the doorbell, it doesn’t work, just give the door a little push and you are welcomed by owners Rudy Ced and Paul Burrough into a wine lover’s best kept secret.
