mid-century marvelous

living

it’s interesting… I feel like each week when I write up a home, I talk about how creative the homeowners are as individuals and that their combination makes an extraordinary home. This week is no exception. This mid-century modern gem belongs to Shay Ometz and Jeff Barfoot. She is an art director for Fossil and he is the owner and creative director of Barfoot Worldwide.

These two people reek of talent and are not only highly imaginative in their day jobs, but equally as much in their spare time. Together they have an adorable company of handmade lovelies and silk screened artwork called Bee Things. I will feature both work and studio in the near future but until then you can find them on Etsy here. Shay is an origami fanatic and makes the most beautiful paper balls which you can find all over the house (note the bowl full of origami in the kitchen) and Jeff  is hands down the most passionate graphic designer I know (hence the wall of posters).

It’s impossible to not call attention to the massive amount of books the Barfoot family has. This wall is probably 15 feet longor more and every square inch is full of books. The collection is functional but it also serves as a beautiful and bright wall in the main living space. I am nuts about these three tray tables Shay found on ebay. They are so unusual and a perfect solution to the age old coffee table question.

Their home is a reflection of their love for concept, their brilliant ability to work with color and highly graphic details. They have done a great job of preserving the house. The Barfoots were careful to keep most of the original light fixtures and things like the brick kitchen, which bring a style to the home that could only be created from true mid-century modernism.

This is really cool. Great use of colour. It reminds me a little of Jonathan Adlers love of colour in his Palm Beach home I saw on http://heartanddesign.blogspot.com
