lovin’ lumi

that’s what friends are for… My nearest and dearest often tease me that I get so hooked on particular foods or restaurants and wear them out. I can’t help it, I live in a city with the most restaurants per capita (or so I hear) and miles of delicious food. There’s something different to try constantly. I can always find a place I haven’t been and am rarely truly disappointed. My current obsession is LUMI. I went there for the first time in February right after it opened and I’m embarrassed to tell you how many times I’ve been since.

Lumi stole my heart the minute I walked in the door. It’s a completely gutted old house and they’ve done an amazing job turning the interior into an open modern space. The details of rustic wood and overall simplicity create a soothing and hip environment. I keep saying it reminds me of a laid back restaurant in Oak Cliff.

The restaurant is owned by a Fort Worth brother/sister duo, An and Susie Bui, they are often at Lumi and are very welcoming. Both of them are great about filling you in on the latest drinks or new dishes to try. An convinced me once to depart from my usual wine and try the signature pineapple jalapeno margarita, so tasty, but not for the weak.

As I say, my first love was the interior, but second and more importantly, I can’t get enough of the food. This is my favorite style of eating, tapas; a little of this, a little of that - so much more fun than one big dish. Let me tell you my favorite recommendations: the crab and cream cheese wontons are a must, the mushroom/mozzarella empanadas are to die for, and I recently fell in love with the crab fried rice (make it spicy of course). And DO NOT miss the chocolate empanadas for dessert. So many good calories to be had. Check out the full menu here.

Fantastic restaurant!! Ordered everything you did plus the yummy pork and black bean soup. Love that they put baskets of shrimp chips out while you’re struggling to narrow down your choice of what to order. I can’t wait to go back.

I’m glad I found your blog! I’m originally from Desoto, but am living in New York now. It’s great to see my hometown have such pockets of fabulousness. I’ll have to try this out when I go home. Thanks!
