wine concierge? uh, yes please.

sign1

everyone loves a secret…   Sacred Cellars is a wine concierge service, which I’m a huge fan of…wine, right to my front door? Where do I sign? But it’s also kind of a speakeasy, they call it the Secret Hideout. I went last week for the first time not knowing what to expect.

It’s a small converted warehouse space located near Love Field in what we’ll call an “interesting area.” A lot of deserted cars back up to this cute little patio and I’m quite certain there are many “deals” going on near this scene. Follow the random sign with an arrow reading “sacred.” There’s no sign on the front door, just above, and you enter through the side door where there may be a taped xerox sign if you’re lucky, but maybe not. Don’t bother ringing the doorbell, it doesn’t work, just give the door a little push and you are welcomed by owners Rudy Ced and Paul Burrough into a wine lover’s best kept secret.

The space is filled with comfy leather chairs, rare and hard-to-find wine and good people, but it’s not an uptown wine bar so don’t expect that. These guys keep it simple, not much fluff here. Rudy and Paul have focused their efforts on small batches of exceptional wine. They can get you anything but they prefer to carry wines that less than 1,000 barrels were made and that you can’t find many other places. You won’t find these selections at Centennial or Sigel’s.

These wines are special, unique and different. The boys know the stories behind every grape and vineyard. GREAT TO KNOW: They host free wine tastings about every 10 days or so and there is a Chardonnay tasting this Friday evening from 7-9. If you’re lucky (and it’s not too hot) Paul might fire up the grill. Click here for a map. And check out this recent post via dallasfood.org …very well written.

I’ve actually been there for a wine tasting about 3 weeks ago. It was such a hidden secret, I wondered how they got the word out. Never the less, they have done a great job at making wine a fun and approachable subject to the novice drinker. That particular night, there was a wine maker there from Spain. The variety of Spanish wines now make total sense to me.

Great write up and I plan on attending Friday’s tasting. It’s good to see a non-chain dynamic duo offering a quality product at reasonable prices. Thanks….

tastings at sacred are a little magical. a chance to blend the wine, the winemakers and reps together pulls the story out of each bottle. paul, especially, is a cornucopia of wine stories, facts and theories. i thoroughly enjoy lulls in the busy evening when you get him to yourself. definitely seek him out.
