big city, quaint life… my fondness for Fort Worth runs deep. I went to college, met my very best friends and really became much of who I am in this city. It warms my heart. It’s a big vibrant metropolitan area that has the endearing charm of a small town. Everyone is welcome and it’s always good friends and good times.
I’m sure I will post frequently about places in this favorite “small” town of mine, anything from food to culture, BUT, wait for it…because first is the shopping, the thing I love to do most and the one thing that you may not hear much about. There are tons of great little pockets of stores tucked in and around Fort Worth.

When I was in school, I lived with my three roommates in a precious tiny little three-bedroom, one bath(!) house on University Drive. My rent was a whopping $250 (oh, the good old days) and we LOVED to shop. The girls and I were definite regulars at the primely located retail center at University and 30. One stylish home decor spot in this shopping hub that I have always had weakness for is Simple Things (No website. I know, I know… but here’s a map).
It’s such a darling store filled with all kinds of heavenly linens, customizable upholstered pieces, great old iron beds and a wealth of other great finds but what I love about it is the surprising twists of antiques throughout the store.

I found great enjoyment in this vintage Americana flag turned into a skirt for this old dress form. It had festive flair in a Susan-B.-Anthony-patriotic-chic kind of way and caught my eye right away. There are unexpected mostly old pieces scattered throughout like tons of cool signage, a gumball rocket machine, a row of bowling pins or my choice pick from my last visit, a bowl full of plastic knights. Who doesn’t need plastic knights?!

I love all the vintage signs! What a cute store - and as a one time UT college student I must say - $250 rent is robbery!! You don’t even want to know what I paid to SHARE a room!
Umm…I need to go with you to Fort Worth it looks like. I never knew there was a whole new world to explore!
I really must return. How could you not tell me they might have lamps I need!!
Can we have a girl’s day in FW soon? I really haven’t been back since visiting ya’ll in college… for some weekend that I can’t even really remember why I was there…??? I would LOVE to see this place… and i think there’s some BBQ place that Sarah says i need to try?
Okay, I need to go to Forth Worth just for this store!! I’ve been dying to get my hands on that “Everyday I Love You” wood work! I wish I could order it from there…do they have a number?
Amanda…their number is 817. 332.1772
thanks for the number!
I came across your blog by way of your feature on Design Sponge. It’s so great to find a blogger like yourself just next door in Dallas! I live in Fort Worth and I am so happy you featured Simple Things. I’ve driven by several times, but never popped in and I will definitely have to now! Fort Worth is booming so much now (as I’m sure you know) so you’ll have to make it a point to come over much more often as the shopping is really expanding! Thanks again :)
I love this store! I make a special trip to Fort Worth just to see what’s new! We have several pieces of furniture and lots of the yummy pillows and linens!
Got all my bedding from here! Absolutely amazing!
I lived in Fort Worth for over 10 years and LOVED Simple Things. It is so nice to see some photos of the store on your blog. I purchased a slipcovered denim sofa from Simple Things years ago but had to let go of it when we moved to Florida two years ago. It was such a great sofa - very durable and comfy. I’ll have to visit the store again when I return to visit friends! Thanks for the post.

The owners of this shop came in and bought from me during the past Warrenton and I’ve planned a trip just to visit them in 2 weeks. I can’t wait to see it in person. Glad I found it on your blog.
sigh. i miss fort worth and simple things so much. had a make a temporary move for family but when i am in fw, i love to visit. i own several pieces from here that i love more and more as time goes by. sherry, the owner, used to be a neighbor of mine. fort worth, i miss you.
Oh, Simple Things. My husband I and bought the first couch they sold. And we still have it in addition to several other pieces. I am astonished how well each piece is weathering the daily abuse of kids while maintaining its original beauty. I happened upon your blog while searching for a website. I would like a new slipcover for our sofa but we moved out of state. I also miss Simple Things. We regularly visited the store. Thanks for posting the photos. It was great to see a glimpse of the store.
@Laura: I think the BBQ place that was suggested to you was The Railhead- yum!
