DETAILS:
Saturday, October 10, from 9am-3pm
11125 Snow White Drive, Dallas 75229

calling all shopaholics…it’s official, Jason McDaniel of MissingQPress, creator of INCREDIBLE letterpress paper goods and I are getting together to have a casual yet fabulous yard sale of things we love. Jason has created all kind of new letterpress goodies (an amazing calendar, notecards, tags, cards, place cards, list goes on and on) and I have been collecting, rethinking, reinventing all kinds of curious finds (lamps, chairs, tables, wall hangings, antlers, skulls and tons of antiques - very cool, unusual stuff). We thought it would be fun to preview a few small things on the blog…we’ll probably do one more sneak peak before the show as a hint of what’s to come so stay tuned for location details. The sale will be Saturday, October 10, from 9-3ish. Hope you can make it!

i like the scorching heat for the most part… as opposed to the bitter cold. But somedays in Texas are just SO ridiculously hot. This summer wasn’t too terrible but there were definitely days that the temp reached well over 10. It’s days like that when you have to stop what ever you are doing (because surely you’re about to pass out anyway), hunt down the nearest sno-cone stand and select your delicacy from an array of beautiful colors and crazy flavors. Shaved ice, snow cones,sno-cones - call them whatever you want are the perfect cure for those days when the sun is just belting down on you. Since this is the last weekend in August (certainly not the last weekend of heat I’m sure) but it seemed appropriate to have a “last call” before open snow cone stands are hard to find!

more fun than I ever expected… Last night I took a 2.5 hour calligraphy class and had a blast (actually script to be more accurate). I’ve been meaning to do this for years and finally have a reason too — more on that later. Susie-Melissa Cherry is a ridiculously talented woman. I’ve known her for years and worked with her on invitations for almost everyone one of our clients at some point. Her calligraphic skills are out of this world lovely and her handwriting will blow your socks off. I always feel so fortunate when I get to incorporate her services either into a design or to address an envelope. It quickly takes an everyday envelope from average to astonishing.

is it over already? As we are hanging on to the last few days of summer and kids are heading back to school I thought it would be fun to share this bright abstract series from photographer Chris Plavidal. Take a close look… I bet you have to do a double take to see what this series is actually made of.

i’m a big fan… of David Simcik’s work. You might remember it from my Grange Hall post, dark and bizarre but somehow charming and definitely interesting. I recently went to visit the intriguing artist’s home and studio.

note: You can look forward to a very cool and mind-boggling post about his studio soon.
