too much of a good thing

is even better… ridiculously delicious food, great finds/killer deals, the best friends and super sore feet. We’re back from Round Top and we had a blast. I know this post is long (mostly images) but I’ve had so many people ask me to post about it because they have never been. SO! Today I will post about the shopping, food and lodging to follow. If you don’t have plans this weekend you should head down south to the mind boggling goodness of vast fields filled with antiques and good times.

So - I’m going to try to run through this really fast because I’m a busy bee trying to get ready for “shop + splendor” next week!!

This is my OVERVIEW…a few notes below but this is the overall gist. This weekend was my second time to RT but basically you drive along through beautiful Texas countryside and you turn off to teeninsy little town. That would be Round Top. Keep trucking — there’s not just a whole lot in Round Top proper as far as I can tell (except Royers and the wine bar - both are a must). You’re going to head a little further down the road until you hit the jackpot AKA Warrenton. This is where you will find the infamous Marburger Farms. Marburger opens on Tuesday for the early shoppers (pre-sale entry is $25) and on Friday for anyone else at $10. Marburger is sort of known as being more pricey, as is the Big Red barn, but both of these shopping extravaganza’s are just that. They are busting at the seems with overwhelming fabulous stuff and even if it’s above your budget you should go. Don’t kid yourself there are deals to be had. Last time we were there we got barstools for $15!!!

The other fields that really get me going are Zapp Hall, Texas Rose, Excess and everything in between is definitely where we spent most of our time. The range of things you will find is astounding. People come from all over to buy and sell. When I was in Seattle I even had a few people tell me that they have been coming down to the show for 15+ years.

These are our local friends at Country Garden Antiques, Gina and Alan. LOVE them. They are talented folks and that Gina can merchandise like you wouldn’t believe. Their tent looked amazing. Located in Zapp Hall.

Texas Rose field… I don’t recall the name of this barn but it’s got a ton of great stuff.

I know you have to love this urn… it is even more jaw dropping in person. My photo doesn’t do it justice. This is A. Tyner from Georgia in Excess field.

OK, I’m a huge fan of this guy… Richard Taylor. When I stumbled, very intently into his tent, he was making a sign that said “nothing made in China“…which I thoroughly enjoyed. I bought a few pieces from him last trip and this one. Check out his Flickr page here. Here’s the thing about Richard: He’s an artist and he works primarily with stores (for example Anthropologie) but he DOESN’T SELL TO THE PUBLIC except AT ROUNDTOP!! So don’t even think about calling him to try to special order…but head down to RT and he’ll fix you up! Excess field.

And this is one of my favorite local gals. You’ve heard me mention her many times, Jacqui Stoneman and her husband Harry Myers. Full on fabulous, as usual. You can check out their booth in Dallas at White Elephant. Many of the great dealers from the incredible Dallas antique mall (WE) travel to Round Top to set up shop. This was in Excess field but you can/should/must find her at Marburger this week.

All in all it’s a great day in Texas - we’re lucky to be so fortunate to have this in our backyard. Lots of wonderment to embrace. I shot these two pics below in Round Top. I love these people riding their Segways through town. Now that’s not a bad idea…

Hello, I was just wondering what the prices were like in Warrenton? On average, I guess? Is it worth the drive from Dallas for someone who doesn’t have a lot of money to spend but loves treasures?

I think it is but then there’s the expense of traveling and I’m not sure of your budget?. There are lots of great places here too to shop!!

This looks fantastic. I don’t know why they don’t have such a thing here in Australia. I think I’d go a bit crazy buying stuff though - don’t know what that’s a good thing or a bad thing!! Absolutely gorgeous post.
