christmas cheer and give away

home61

what a year… Thank you to all of you who have supported the blog this year. It has truly been wonderfully life changing and so much fun…more than I ever expected and opened up avenues I could not have imagined. To celebrate many months of good fortune and to kick off the new year, I am doing my first ever giveaway!! THIS IS RARE and I think I will only do it a few times a year, maybe just at Christmas so take advantage. My friend Geradline Guivas is an AMAZING fashionista and one-of-a-kind clothing designer. I love all of the things she makes, very textural and sculptural - right up my alley. She has an inspirational fashion blog that I adore,  Passion for Shoes, and over the summer I saw her at a photoshoot with Bret Sano wearing this gorgeous necklace. She handmakes them and I have one. It’s so lovely. In fact, I have it out in my home just hanging on a white compote to enjoy every day.

I am signing off until the new year — we are headed to my parents farm to do some much needed relaxing and spend time with family. I’ll post pics of the farm New Year’s day and am over -the -moon about sharing with you Vynsie Law’s bright and fun home (We are 1976) early next year. Until then, I wish you and all of your families a wonderful holiday!!  happy, merry and love to all!

(several pics of the necklace below and one of Geraldine wearing it for scale…fyi, it’s about 24 inches long)

book beauties

go ahead and judge a book by it’s cover but if you really want to get to the good stuff, you usually have to dive inside. I recently visited Kim Neiman of Studio 204 to tour the studio and check out her latest. Studio 204 is a letterpress studio of two, Kim Neiman and Virgil Scott and Kim has been studying, teaching and exploring bookbinding for the past several years. I’m intrigued with all of the papers, bindery methods and crazy folding. The books are rare treasures, each one of them handcrafted by Kim herself.

bring on the yum… I asked super talented state fair food champion, Lauren Berndt, to whip up anything she wanted for a little holiday treat for the blog. Lauren amazes me with her creativity in the food department some of her award winning delights are Mushroom Apple and Cranberry Stuffed Acron Squash, Cinnamon Jalapeno Pecan Brittle, Pumpkin Seed Flat Bread and my favorite, Maple Spam Brulée. This girl can bring on the tastebuds. I’m super excited that what she came up with is not only a RIDICULOUSLY delicious treat (I had to taste test!) but also can be given as a gift. It’s a cookie mix that is trés easy, you can package it adorably in a vintage Kerr bottle with tag + directions and voila! You have a tasty and fun gift!!  Happy eating!

have I got a treat for you… it has been a busy week so sorry for the lack of posts but this was worth the wait. I’m thrilled today to share with you the Christmas Collection of Missing Q Press. Jason has been gathering vintage holiday decor for years and of course has a knack for making it all look fabulous. Literally he has more than 10 trees in his house. Hundreds of gorgeous and interesting ornaments, glass cloches covering precious little antique Christmas trinkets. It’s a lovely, happy holiday…Enjoy!

deck the halls

hall21

beyond my expectations… A little over a month ago I was documenting the last Dwell with Dignity project for the blog and founder, Lisa Robinson, her partner, Kim Turner and I were standing in the hallway talking about the length of time it would take to reach all of the residences. We began to discuss the public areas as a way to bring some of the DWD joy to all who live in these buildings. Kim and Lisa informed me that there was a plan for the hallways to frame inspirational quotes. I immediately piped up and said that I would be happy to pull a bunch of designers (who love type) to pull this together — and thus Deck the Halls was born. It’s been a busy last few weeks so thank goodness for Sara Stoner and Rachel Castor who served as co-chairs for this event and really made this whole thing happen - a super special hooray to these special gals.

Yesterday we installed 3 buildings, 6 hallways, 12 walls and 48 pieces of art. 12 AMAZING design teams brought their work, drills, hammers and hands to Deck the Halls. The basic gist was 4 frames and a hollow core door to be used as a canvas, keep the art simple and cheery…what we got back was art that was inspirational to all of us.
