it’s impossible to pick… which one of the two highly anticipated shop-a-thons I am more excited about. Just in time for your holiday shopping — we have the official grand opening of We are 1976 and the debut of The Dallas Flea.

So I’m taking it by order of events and first up is the We are 1976 opening TONIGHT!
NOTE: Studio 204 and Inky Lips Letterpress will be showing prints at the opening!!

The Flea is tomorrow so hold on to your hats and get out your wallets because it’s going to be a busy, beautiful weekend folks!

step 1: We are 1976

We are 1976 is a store like no other store in Dallas and quite frankly, most places. I’m telling you if you want something unique or even just need a break from your everyday holiday shopping this is the place to go. I guess it reminds me a little of Urban Outfitters  (which, who doesn’t love that) sans the crazy organization and difficult shopping but then store owners, Vynsie and Jully Law have great taste in jewelry (you WILL put this on your Christmas list) and just other crazy things they have scoured the earth for that you definitely won’t find any where else locally and I challenge you to find most of it anywhere. You have to see it for yourself. They are also featuring tons of local artists…and as I say tonight is one of my great loves, letterpress.

I pulled this from their about us section on the website because I think it perfectly captures the spirit and intent of this store. If you know Vynsie at all, you can picture her with “a giant wink of humor.” Love her, Love the store. Congrats girls!! (and Derek!)

1976 was a year of revolutionary change.

Apple threw open the doors of imagination, Tiananmen Square launched a reverie for freedom, and we were born. Now, all grown up, we celebrate the cultural revolution that was born in the year of our birth (well, Vynsie’s and Jully’s — Derek was born in 1977, but we let him join us anyway). The declaration of freedom from rigid boundaries, so that art is not just paint on a canvas; humanity is not regional but global; the earth is not only where we live, but our source of life; life is serious, but also precious and should be lived with joy, passion, a giant wink of humor, and a great deal of thoughtfulness.

GRAND OPENING TONIGHT — FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4 @ 7:30
1902 HENDERSON AVENUE, DALLAS 75206

step 2: The Dallas Flea

O.M.G. — so here’s the thing on this flea business. I met Brittany Edwards at White Elephant a while back and she mentions the flea, that it will be a monthly event at Southside, and asks me to think about being a vendor having just finished up shop + splendor. She throws out a couple of people who will be there Stella Dallas, Bee Things, Again & Again…my ears perk up right away as these are some of favorite people in town. Weeks go by and I hear more and more murmuring from people all over the place that I deeply admire who are participating and honestly - it’s too many to mention. Just yesterday I saw Christine Visneau from Little Bean/Small Magazine (who is amazing and uber talented) and SHE’S going to be there to — I mean, of course she is, apparently everyone amazing in town will be. So! Needless to say I am huge sucker for flea markets but a flea market filled with well-edited fabulosity. Um, I’ll be there when the doors open, thank you very much. Looking forward to it and can’t wait to see what goodies everyone has brought to the trendsetting table. I have listed the vendors below for you to quickly peruse.

Saturday, December 5 — 9 to 4 : 1409 S Lamar : $5 entry

See you there!
