book beauties

go ahead and judge a book by it’s cover but if you really want to get to the good stuff, you usually have to dive inside. I recently visited Kim Neiman of Studio 204 to tour the studio and check out her latest. Studio 204 is a letterpress studio of two, Kim Neiman and Virgil Scott and Kim has been studying, teaching and exploring bookbinding for the past several years. I’m intrigued with all of the papers, bindery methods and crazy folding. The books are rare treasures, each one of them handcrafted by Kim herself.

holiday

I first saw a glimpse of these little gems at the Mohawk show a few months back. Lucky for you, these limited edition holiday books are now available online at the new Felt and Wire shop!! I’m showing you the holiday but there are others you should check out (I know we’re on the countdown to Christmas!)

Kim has expanded her abilities from bookbinding and letterpress to include foil stamping… I’ll be honest, I have a hard time resisting a good foil stamp. By adding that delightful little luxury to her other talents, the world is your oh-so lovely oyster my friends!!

LOVE those gold foil dots on the edges of the paper… how does she do that?!?! I WANT.

type

ooooh… this one… The exterior cloth of the book is letterpressed with antique type. Very tactile and impactful and then contrasted with the graphic patterned paper on the inside.

cards

Fun series of cards combining letterpressing, foil stamping and SUPER FUN envelope liners (Yep, Kim has a die for that too… jealous? Yeah, I feel your pain)

AND THE FOLDING. This is mind-blowing to me. Absolutely beautiful. Just unbelievable.
