a little slice of fried heaven… I started the blog with the intention that it would be fun to tell people about things I love old and new. I wouldn’t call this one oldie but it’s a goodie. Hattie’s in Bishop Arts district still rocks my happy little food+interior loving world. The mouth watering food, the gorgeous space, the relaxed atmosphere…Southern. Comfort. Deliciousness. I think most people frequent Hattie’s for dinner and drinks — Fried green tomatoes or the the tomato bisque with mini grilled cheese but friends, let me tell you about the brunch. I haven’t been there for brunch in several years but I went this Sunday and people, …run, do not walk, to devour the chicken and waffles with red pepper maple glazed syrup. Oh yes, It’s as delightful as it sounds.
**side note + follow up to Hope for Haiti: THRILLED to tell you that Amos Ivey and several other Haitian adoptions were sped up as a result of the tragedy. Amos was brought to the US this Saturday and is now permanently with his family in Austin!! Wonderful news!!

Bishop Arts reminds me of a great little neighborhood in Seattle called Old Ballard. So charming.

The first time I stepped into Hattie’s I fell in love with the gorgeous interior, designed by one of my local favs Julio Quinones. I think this was the first time I saw Julio’s work and have admired him ever since. The color palette (or lack there of) is crisp clean hues of white and the furnishings are a mixture of old and new. The overall feel is very Brooklyn to me. I actually ate a restaurant in Brooklyn when I was in NYC last month with Grace and Julia.

I’m obsessing over these wingback chairs…black leather with a black woven ratan maybe? Not sure but the juxtaposition of the two fabrics is genius.

I want that top row of beautiful white ceramic dishes at the top of this huge cabinet.

This handsome little beverage is the Grasshopper: Creme de Menthe, White Godiva Chocolate and something else yummy…

Bloody Mary anyone? or coffee? mostly cream….

Oh. Yes ma’am. Delish. You won’t be sorry.

Great spot most creative types have known about for years, but this was my first time to experience Hatties during the day. I loved the interior and the lighting… not to mention two food favorites combined together - fried chicken and waffles!!!
i’m pretty much loving that chicken & waffles has gone “high end” and can be ordered at such a cute place - complete with a white table cloth. :)
I don’t think I have ever heard of chicken and waffles paired together. Ever.
I have been to Hattie’s and it was fine, but I am going to hurry back to try that chicken and waffle combo. Yum!
I am so happy to hear that the adoption went through for your friend. Great news on a long Monday afternoon.
So excited for Amos and his new family. A happy thing!!
I know where I’ll be this Sunday. Nice photos.
Being a Southern Girl (GA), I am all too familiar with chicken and waffles! Carb heaven overload!
Hatties is the best!!!
Now … What is the name of that great wall color? Benjamin Moore ” .. ” maybe?!?
Smooches,

I adore chicken & waffles. I actually ate them on my first date with my significant other. We went to Hattie’s for brunch, and I was slightly hungover. But I wasn’t at all embarrassed to order & conquer chicken and waffles. So delicious.
