pretty byrd… this post is LOOOONG overdue. I love Fort Worth, we know this. And I am smitten with this little gem! Byrd + Bleecker is really the store that inspired my article in the November issue of FD Luxe (you can visit the link on B+B’s blog here or here in case you missed the article or don’t live in the area). This chic little boutique has pretty much every thing I love down to a sweet puppy and part-time mascot, Dice and Grover the cat to greet you upon arrival. Byrd + Bleecker is chalked full of fabulous tidbits of home furnishings, yummy candles, a great stockpile of “couture” books and a huge range of gorgeous stationery.
Style savvy owner, Libby Pettit Johnson, was a busy bee last year. She launched a new online store, redesigned her identity with the talented Jessica Hische and revamped a darling B+B website - (all three are amazingly well done and we know I’m picky about that sort of thing) - but to top it all off she also became a “Mrs.” this New Years Eve. So a BIG congratulations to Libby and her new Husband, Weldon!! Very happy for them!
Enjoy!

this is amos… Look at that face!!! Don’t you just love it!?! This is the adopted son of one of my dear friends, Jamie Ivey. Jamie and her husband Aaron have four childred. Two adopted two Haitian children, Story and Amos, one child through domestic adoption, Deacon, and then their biological son, Cayden - and yes, they are all this adorable. Amos is still living in Haiti (read more about how Amos is doing and their Haitian adoptions below).
Jamie and Aaron were on CNN this morning to tell their story (watch it here) and after watching their segment I just felt that I needed to try to spread the word about their efforts for Haiti. The Ivey’s are blessed with a wonderful family but give back so much more than they receive. Please read the rest of this post to find out how to support them and so many others in their quest to help Haiti. Words escape me as to how to express my heavy heart that goes out to the entire country and those who have loved ones that are connected to it. Have a great weekend, friends. We should all be both humbled and thankful for our many blessings.

i don’t even really like movies… (it’s a long time for this ‘ol girl to sit still) but Mr. Sano LOVES them. I do, however, like pretty pictures. If know you me really well you probably think it’s so funny I would even blog about a movie but this one really struck me. A couple of weeks ago we ordered one of the most gorgeous, well shot movies that I’ve ever seen, The Fall. Every frame is jaw droppingly phenomenal, like a perfect photograph, and the story is actually really sweet. I adore the little girl. It’s been a long and busy week so I’m looking forward to a little movie time this weekend. If you are in need of a little rest and relaxation combo with some breathtaking cinematography — then my weekend suggestion for you is to grab this awe-inspiring movie unwind, enjoy and soak up the beauty.
Happy weekend friends!!

now that’s a quilt… When we were in San Antonio for the holidays we did a little exploring and I have some great things to share. I’m excited to introduce you today to artpace. The installation above is a mega quilt by artist Adrian Esparza that spans 84 feet… it was huge, magnificent and impactful. I’m all for art that is huge and repetitive…just something about it’s presence.
Artpace was founded by artist, collector, and businesswoman Linda Pace, (yes, like as in Pace Picante!) to serve as a laboratory of dreams, providing artists from all over the world with an environment that would encourage experimentation and growth. And that is exactly what it is. It reminds me of SITE Santa Fe in that it’s very unconventional and you will never know what is next. In my opinion, one of the things that pushes both SITE and artpace is the focus on local. The program at artpace brings in three artists (one from Texas, one from elsewhere in the US, and one international artist) three times a year to live in residency (at the artpace studios) for two months and just play. The result is an eight week, stellar exhibition that has been a launching pad for HUGE names in art such as Teresita Fernández (she also has a piece in the new art collection of Cowboys Stadium). View her artpace install here from 1999.
Explore and enjoy this experimental haven.

actually yes, I will take a tarantula… with a Ken doll head! I love it when I find things in the most unexpected places and lately it seems like Dallas has been like Candy Land! New little shops popping up all over the place that feel more like they should be in Seattle or Austin but I’m thrilled they are here. The other day I was at one of my old favs, Lula B’s on lower Greenville and spotted a new sign. Bows and Arrows. I was in a hurry but whipped around anyway and I was NOT disappointed. Alicia and Adam are the adorably hip owners of this new flower shop + gallery + craft store with a very groovy indie vibe. I couldn’t wait to share.
