two bees in a pod: part 13 of 14

entryway1

with a little help from our friends… (Wedding No. 4) A few years back, I, along with several other good friends helped throw a wedding for Shay Ometz and Jeff Barfoot, owners of Bee Things. I asked them to dig up the photos so I could share them with you. We are all designers and love to throw parties so we knew we could pull off this cute little backyard shindig. The bride wore green and thus set the tone for the whole evening. Hope you enjoy!

First, I should say that all of this was a surprise. Not the wedding, but the Barfoots allowed us to put it all together with very little input so that made it fun for all of us to see their reactions to the little details. This is a detail of the entrance, white curtains were draped beautifully and tied back with grass colored satin ties with white lights overhead. It was summertime and it was hot so we had to make sure all were hydrated. We made three different kinds of “green-inspired” water  - cucumber, mint and lime in these huge barrels (it looks green in color but it wasn’t, that’s just the reflection of the green table cloth)

typewriter

Jeff had an old typewriter that he loves so in lieu of a typical guest book we put together a seemingly endless scroll of bright green paper that ran down a long table. People sat throughout the evening to type their notes to the bride and groom.

reception

Inside the house, we cleared out all of the furniture and filled it with enough tables and chairs to seat 70.

table1

It’s a little hard to tell but all of the flowers were actually succulents, a favorite of the non-traditional bride. Her bouquet was an artichoke!

placesetting

Shay and Jeff both LOVE buttons so we pulled this graphic from their wedding invite to make buttons. We tied together the lime and apple green napkins with vintage fabric and adorned them with these little buttons for all the guests to wear that evening.

namecards

Carefully lined up seating cards.

cakes

We opted to do a dessert buffet as opposed to one wedding cake. These were from a fabulous bakery called Petit-Fours which I’m sad ot report is now closed. They had the best cakes so beautifully designed and even better tasting. We threw in a pecan pie for Jeff (his fav).

lamp1

I lucked out big time and found a bunch of oversized gorgeous props at a garage sale of a local event designer. We don’t have photos of all of it but the one pictured above was a huge bird cage. It was so big most of the girls could stand straight up inside of the center. We suspended it in the tree and hung together several drum shades that were lite them from the center. (Getting that thing in the tree was pretty crazy!) It may be hard to tell but there were two huge floor lamps with four foot wide lamp shades - very cool pieces that all made the evening very special.

sendoff

It was fun for all of us to be a part of this with our dear friends. (Thanks Jeff and Shay for sharing!)
