all that glitters

home3

gold infused goodness? Yes, please. This post is long overdue. I met Bukola Koiki late last fall. She’s a graphic designer from Nigeria who has a love for fabrics, gorgeous fabrics. On a recent trip home while shopping the Nigerian market with her mother Bukola picked up a few yards of a variety of Dutch wax print fabrics and a Woodin gold-infused fabric to bring back to the states. (Lucky us!) I think her eye as a graphic designer impacts the patterns she selects. They all have amazing repeats and colors. I could see any of them made into a great pillow or covering a small stool. I like to do little projects like that. Quick, easy and I can do it myself. These would easily make a big impact and change a piece of furniture. Visit her Etsy shop of fabulosity, Mindbolt Fabrics.

pretty little preview: part.1

sneakpeakbb_alte1

i have a thing for little bebe tables… and Neiman Marcus downtown they always seem to have a few special little tables. I love these two that popped up at the store the other for the event on the 8th. The bases are twig like but I really am loving the one with lots of twiggy legs and the tops have sort of a reptile pattern. They weren’t there in my first walk through and appeared as if by magic from the Angel of Petit Tables! Aren’t they fun?! I thought so too. I’m most definitely incorporating these into the space..it’s coming together so great. It will be a fun party. See you then!

whoa

jump

i’m definitely awake now… thank you very much! Sex, drugs and rock&roll - ala Germany circa 1891. Last week we went to see Spring Awakening at the stunning Winspear Opera House and wanted to throw up a quick post to say WOW. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a musical that I really enjoyed and this one was amazing. Engaging story, jarring content, great music, very cool set and costuming…all the art worlds collided here to make it spectacular. A few uncomfortable moments here and there — as someone said to me “I wouldn’t go see it on a first date.” So don’t say I didn’t warn  you.

If you don’t have plans to see this show you probably ought to RUN to the box office

blissful b&b, round top

front1

if you haven’t heard already… Round Top is this weekend UPDATE: It actually “officially” started this weekend though dealers have been setting up and people have been shopping for a couple of weeks. Roundtop and Marburger will be officially going on next weekend through the 4th!!! If you missed my post from the fall check it out here. I’m a little bummed I’m not attending this go-round but that just means I’ll be really amped when the girls and I head there in the fall! I have many friends headed to this little Texas town to get their treasure hunting, junk high on and I will live vicariously through them. I wanted to share with you the wonderful place we stayed when we went in late September. It’s tough to find places to stay at all (let alone close to Round Top) but this little bed and breakfast in Brenham is absolutely darling, super sweet owner, mouthwatering breakfasts and most importantly, quaint and quiet after a long day of shopping. I highly recommend Wrigley House for your next trip that direction!

you are invited

nine1

somebody pinch me… I’ve been waiting to share this with you for several days now and to say that I’m excited would be a ridiculous understatement. A couple of weeks ago I got an email from the wonderful Jeny Bania, PR manager for the downtown Neiman Marcus store about doing an event. You may or may not know that in my “real life” as a designer of all things lovely I have worked with NM Corporate PR for the past nine years designing invitations to events such as this. (Did I mention I’m beyond excited??) The name of the event is SUBLIME SHELTER & SPLENDOR. I (aka style/SWOON) will be styling what I’m calling a small “home” (think NYC apartment) on the fourth floor in the home and entertaining gallery. It will be a three day installation that kicks off Thursday evening, April 8th, with a cocktail reception from 6-8 p.m. FD Luxe is co-sponsoring so my favorite fab fashionista crew will be there so that is super fun. Most importantly YOU are invited. I would love it if you could make it: cocktails, bites, Tim is the DJ (aka the oh-so dapper Tim Flannery) and oodles of great style. Hopefully you will experience NM home like you haven’t seen it before. Wish me luck!

NOTE: I will be previewing some of the items that I will be using on the blog before the event. (We just got back, so much great stuff to play with.)

So, mark your calendars friends! Look forward to seeing your smiling faces on the 8th!!
