can anyone relate

happyfriday2

oh whew… My week has been a whirlwind of goodness and beauty. We finished up three rooms in Judy Aldridge’s house (stay tuned) and photographed it with Manny for FD Luxe (look for it in the June/July issue); last night I finally met in person the amazing Ronda Carman at the SFERRA event at Ceylon et Cie and met the stunning Michelle Nussbaumer, I had a wonderful lunch today with Jenny O’Connor at Forty Five Ten and oodled all of their amazing home goods. And I’m sure several other things so needless to say, great week but thankful for Friday.

Have a great weekend!

the gift that keeps on giving

willie_allisonvsmith

yup… that would be Allison V. Smith and Willie Nelson. Two of my most favorite talented Texans who never stop creating. Allison just tweeted about her latest post (literally) and I contacted her immediately to see if I could share it with you all. I’m a HUGE Willie fan. I know all the songs, been to many concerts and even kissed him on the cheek at a client’s 60th birthday bash. He’s a little crazy and a lot a legend (as most good ones are), we know this and that’s what we love about him. Both are perfectly captured in this photo of his monogrammed New Balance shoes by the ever-brilliant Allison. He has a special place in my little old country-gal heart. Busy week… gotta run…On the road again…(ha! Had too! I’ll stop there - believe me, I could do Willie-isms all day.)

going vertical

it’s so gloriously green outside… isn’t it? I’m sure everyone, has Spring Fever and is spending at least one weekend buying plants and more plants to begin installing their 2010 yard. If you’re like me, it’s pretty much an annual thing because I’m terrible at it. When I was at the AIA “Blurring the Lines” event, Terence Riley from the Miami Art Museum talked about the vertical gardens that are incorporated in the new space. I was in awe. They were beautiful and changed the facade and experience of that architecture entirely. He credits (and most people do) Patrick Blanc with the idea of the vertical garden. Since I couldn’t get it off my mind off of this gorgeous execution, I did a search and voila! Found some great inspiration. I always love houses covered in greenery or ivy but I’m incredibly impatient (shocker) and really much more of an instant gratification kind of gal.

See below for the MAM rendering and other vertical garden options that you can actually do!

sloan hall

really good gift stores are rare… If you’re lucky enough to even find them they should be coveted and rewarded. Shopping for gifts can be tough but if you go with the “if I like it they will too” philosophy that usually works. Some people are really good at gift giving and I envy those people. This is one of my favorite gift stores, sloan/hall, sadly for me only in San Antonio and Houston but that just makes me look forward to next visits. Take a peek inside the beautiful world of sloan/hall. The owners have an amazing eye and have a knack for seeking out the rare and special things that can elevate your gift giving level to greatness.

birds of a feather

many

not really sure… where I saw this for the first time or if it was forwarded to me. This uncommissioned series is such an odd and beautiful collection called “Amarinthine” by Mark Laita I had to share it with you. We know I love taxidermy (even though I haven’t talked about it much lately). The rich, vibrant colors in these images, the beautiful textures and shapes…even the tags are all so alluring yet somewhat somber. For some reason, capturing them in a photo leaves me with a different feeling than the obscurity of a huge stuffed peacock in a store or an antelope head on a wall. Amarinthine means eternally beautiful and unfading, everlasting. Appropriate, don’t you think?
