boogie nights

dining_formal

i love disco, i love the nightlife… I love the 70’s. Just sayin’. I’m THRILLED to share the home of blogger Joslyn Taylor with you. It’s stunning. Truly. We’re lucky to live in an area where there are little gems of very cool 70’s mod houses. She and her husband Bryan discovered this house and described it as “boogie nights meets brady bunch(which equals for me, I’m in! and must see ASAP!!). I’m happy to report this house for a family of four has still got a little boogie nights rockin’. Enjoy and have a fabulous weekend.

Do you love it all ready? The beams, the fireplace, the LIMED wood paneling (detail and info below), the wall of windows in the back…the fact that it’s sunken…oh and then the decor. That mirror? Sigh. I love. It all.

liming

And this started my new obsession with liming wax. You can only get it at specialty hardware stores and Restoration Hardware, I found out when Googling info. Upon the Taylor’s arrival and purchase of the house the paneling was all dark chocolate brown and there was lots of it. Joslyn couldn’t stand it. So first she had it all striped and sanded. The painters were NOT happy… Dremel tool + lots of paneling = no fun. She had them stain it and it was a light pine. Again, mama was not a happy camper. SO she had the brilliant idea of using liming wax on the paneling. It looks AMAZING. I never would have thought of it. Liming wax is basically a white paste that goes into the cracks, crevices and grain of wood. Some people call it pickling. I recommend if you do this to stain and polyurethane something first if you want to preserve the brown of the wood. Otherwise it will make the wood a grayish tone if it has only been stained or won’t accept stain well if you apply the wax to the raw wood. This has just been my little experimental moment. I’m sure there are online tutorials that are MUCH more informative.

We loved this… I’m all kinds of inspired with back to school things lately. This poster is totally genius and I’m pretty sure it should be a staple in all decor for families with little kiddos “Tie your shoes, pack a good lunch and remember that we’re all in this together.” Available here.

art

Great sculpture over the bar…isn’t it perfect on this mushroom colored wall.

dining-art

Probably my favorite vignette in the house. I am still baffled that Joslyn decided that the perfect place for that little painting was above the painting of the woman?! I think it’s brilliant and curious… I love that in a home. AND this painting Michelle Armas is even more amazing in person. Love all the great color and depth. It’s on my wish list.

dining1

What a lovely dining room and let’s be honest. It’s this killer table that makes it great. Hand planed, sanded, buffed, shined, loved on, sanded some more, steel wooled, sanded some more, more buffing, more shining, welded and created entirely by Joslyn’s husband, Bryan. It’s absolutely stop-you-in-your-tracks extraordinary. Detail below.

Great green color. I’m so not that brave… oh how fun to be so bold.

The sweet girls rooms… Millie and Audrey. P.R.E.C.I.O.U.S. (both the rooms and the sweet girls) Seriously. Take a look…it is not normal to have such adorable children and documented so well. Joslyn is an amazing photographer.

Great barstools in the kitchen and great bumper sticker from Food a Love Story…you too can have one. Another good family staple, yes?

Collection of all things white… I don’t even think I need to express my feelings on that one.

Ok, this is rivaling the other for my favorite vignette… that mouse?!!

necklace

Just thought I would share her necklace hanging options. I think it’s so important to display your jewelry in a lovely way. Don’t you?

office

And finally, her office where she works from home two days a week. Thursday and Friday what if you got to sign off the week and kick off the weekend here??

wallpaper

Last thing — Rockin’ wallpaper throughout. The girl is not a afraid to throw up a little wall paper. And I have to admit, I was jealous. Joslyn was again kind enough to share a great wallpaper resource, Graham and Brown, with me for EXTREMELY reasonable pricing. Check it out.

This is a great LH home! My good friend’s father and his wife used to live in this house and trust me it never looked this good. It took someone with great vision to create the home it is now. I had the privlage of touring it a few years ago on the Lake Highlands home tour.

I’ve seen some other “sneak peeks” of her house before, but this one takes the cake. What gorgeous detail, everything is so personal, and decorated with perfection but at the same time not too “done”. Joslyn is sooooooooo multi-talented…

The lamp above the table is something I had custom made through a company called Moon Shine Lamp and Shades: (http://www.moonshineshades.com/index.php)
