i’m seriously excited… So I’m driving on Mockingbird today (Sunday) late afternoon and it’s about oh — 107 degrees outside (just miserable). And I see this sign “KAYAK RENTALS” on White Rock lake. Finally!! I’ve always wondered why we don’t have more activity ON the lake. Restaurants (please someone!?!), kayaking, any daily activity for the public, etc. There are tons of festivals and we love the dogpark but not enough daily activity that anyone can do if you don’t have a sailboat. I admit, it’s a bit toasty mid day in August to kayak but late evenings and early mornings are great. Owner Amy Ebert moved here from Austin and she used to kayak all the time on Town Lake. She is certified by the American Canoe Association (ACA) and after four months of working with the city she’s finally set up camp! See below for photos and more details. Welcome to Dallas White Rock Paddle Co. and sweet Amy! We’re so glad you are here!!

Rentals can be as short as 1 hour (which is awesome if you are a rookie like me!) or 3 and a full day if you’re really into it. I think the thing I’m most excited about is a late evening kayak. The last boat goes out at 7:30 to be back by 8:30…doesn’t that sound great?? Also, she’s going to be out there EVERY DAY through October and then will set back up in March. So I’m sure weekends will be a little busier as soon as weather gets a bit cooler but during the week is great too!

Visit the website for more information and get all the scoop on rentals, lessons and start up deals. Prices are very reasonable, which is awesome.

Hi Sam! I’m so glad you stopped by to see me today!!! The sign works. It was blazin’ hot when you came by, but it cooled off a little…enough to get a few paddlers out on the water anyway. We are so excited to be out at White Rock Lake to offer kayak and canoe rentals to anyone who is interested. Sounds like I will be seeing you later this week. Can’t wait! See you then!
Totally going to check this out!
This is great!
Also - man, what a good idea about a restaurant on the lake.
Or a few!!
Finally is right. Hope it is a big success.
Fun post! I’m still kind of scarred where kayaks are concerned. When we were younger my cousin’s sport was tipping me over when I was in one. He got me every time.
I drive past the lake about 4-5 times a week and I just noticed this Kayak rental sign. I’ve always wanted to try kayaking. Definitely will check it out.
Great to have some new activity on the lake. Other than the events at the Arboretum, there’s not much going on in or around the lake, so this new venture will make the lake looks so much more fun. It’s funny to think that no one has been able to make it happen before now. Congrats to Amy and the city for getting with the program. Maybe this is just the beginning!
I had no idea! I’m dying to try one. I might have to wait till it cools off a little, though. Thanks for posting this, and love your photos.
I am so excited about this! I saw the sign too but have been to hot to try it. Will be a customer soon.
