i’m whipped… I know, I know - I owe you my final Napa post. It has been a week - a good one, just FULL! So - Napa - I’ve got all the images ready (so close!) and I promise to post the beauty, peacefulness and relaxation that is the wine country next week. Until then, it is the weekend baby and mama is out of here! Yes, it’s Halloween so for all of you people who love to dress up please send me pics. I love to see all the costumes (my favorite this year so far is a vintage tattoo lady). Me dress up, not so much but would love to live vicariously through those of you that do. If you are not looking to dress up then Sunday swing by One Arts Plaza for their Fall Block Party.

you never know… what or who you are going to see in places like San Francisco. This is a shot that Bret took of some moldy bread and random pants on the street. He has a knack for finding the most bizarre still life combinations. One of my favorites is a shot he took of a hair piece, cigarette and a newpaper in NYC.
Below is a recap of our fast and furious day in SF. MUST go back. So much more to see but it was a perfect day with Design Sponge City Guide in hand! (DON’T go anywhere without it - seriously people) FYI - this is a long post! Enjoy friends.

just by chance… (via twitter actually) I found out Julia Rothman was going to be in San Fran on Thursday night for the The Exquisite Book signing, her new Book with Jenny Volvovski and Matt Lamothe (her partners in ALSO) at Rare Device. The Exquisite Book is a project based on the Surrealist game called the Exquisite Corpse. The book is a modified version of the game, played by one hundred contributing contemporary fine artists, illustrators, designers and comic artists. Read all about the book here and watch the video (also below).
I was of course thrilled to see Julia (love her) but also to see the artists in action. It’s so rare to get to watch illustrators draw. It’s different than portrait artists or painters you might see at an event. It’s fun to watch the way they think. Simple, yet genius. Each one picked up after the other and created what ended up as a continous piece of art. Below is a sneak peak of the event… Congratulations to all involved - see their process here! IF you are anywhere in the vicinity of Brooklyn you should go to the book signing tonight at the Powerhouse Arena.

so worth it… The wait or the weight (lots-o-calories friends). We asked about the best place for breakfast and handsdown Dotties was recommended to us. We had Tartine on our list and I have no doubt it is amazing but Dotties did not disappoint. It was so delicious I had to give it a post all it’s own. Dottie’s is a small place that seats less than 40 people and apparently there is ALWAYS a line out the door. Enjoy…

we had to sleep somewhere… We decided to spend our first night in San Francisco and then the following day but headed to Napa that evening. While we were in SF we stayed at the Clift. The Clift was revamped by Philippe Starck and it is very in keeping with his esthetic — miles and miles of draperies (seriously probably $2,000 of drapes in my hotel room alone - the man loves a curtain) and tons of amazing seating (a man after my own heart), great quirks here and there (that too). All in all I love a well designed hotel and I drag Bret to everyone I can find when we are out of town. I think the Clift is a definite must to grab a drink if you are in SF. I highlighted a few details below.
