workin’ for it

untitled-15_home1

two things… you really should do this weekend. First, I’m super proud to share that local lovely and interior design super star Michelle Nussbaumer (owner of Ceylon et Cie) is featured on One King’s Lane with “Michelle Nussbaumer’s Guide to Stylish Living” but also that she is hosting a Tastemaker Tag Sale starting on Saturday, October 9th at 10am CT on ONEKINGSLANE.COM. Very exciting. I love a good deal, especially when it’s something fabulous!! AND TWO - You MUST go by the Janette Kennedy Gallery at SouthSide on Lamar to see Elizabeth Anyaa’s new show, Facets of Felt. I have YET to blog about this amazingly talented woman and anything I could do today would not do her justice to there’s a sneak peek below of one of my favorite pieces from Michelle Nussbaumer and one of my favorite pieces from Ms. Anyaa.

southern serenity

home

beautiful, isn’t it… I love when I walk into a house and am overwhelmed with where to begin — that’s a good sign. I know that I’m going to love the house and typically the person who made it so overwhelmingly gorgeous. A few weeks ago I visited the home of an amazing woman, Angie Cavalier. This girl has been an antique hunter for years, “junkin’” (as we lovingly refer to it) is in her blood and she is an expert at pulling it all together into perfectly styled domestic bliss. One of the coolest things about Angie’s house is that it is NEW. Now, I’m not typically a person who just loves new houses. I love a new modern house but I’m truly a sucker for old houses of any kind really. There’s so much more character. Well, Angie brought the character, southern charm and then some into her newly built home. By bringing in a long list of antiques and vintage pieces — doors, floors, cabinets, hardware, windows and tons of details — she achieved a truly gorgeous well-loved new home. Enjoy!

the talent of some people

36225_14326714_l

is sick… Seriously. How can you not l-o-v-e this Willie Nelson/Pippi Longstocking YELLOW tiger?!?! I’m actually not much of an online shopper (I know you probably don’t believe that). I like to see the quality of what I’m buying but lately I’m changing how I feel about buying art online and this morning I discovered Society 6. It is a collective of crazy talented kind of edgy artists and illustrators who create art and then sell prints, canvases, iphone cases, t-shirts… all kinds of stuff but what I’m fired up about is the art. Pricing is very reasonable and thus making the art more accessible. We all want that right? I love that it is an edited boutique of cool art. There’s so much of this kind of thing out there — it’s just finding it right? I pulled a few that I thought were genius below…set aside some time when you dive in. You could be there for days looking at all of the greatness.

Above piece: Rock Candy by Valistika LARGE (28″ x 38″) available here (and is only $57.20!)

it’s a tough job

fdeluxe-nov023

but somebody’s got to do it… I have to say, I am very lucky and love my job(s) - ALL of them. Once a month I get to put on my FD Luxe hat (or fabulous shoes would be more appropriate) and whip together some new trend or write about someone’s new groovy store that I love. It’s truly so much fun. This month I pulled together what we affectionately refer to as the “utilitarian-military-camping trend“. Tracy (my fab editor) things chic camping is the next big thing and I have to agree. We all know military is hot this fall but then there’s the whole utilitarian/military influence in interiors from pulley carts as coffee tables to sofas upholstered in recycled army shelters. Check out the new FD Men’s issue (love the cover) and you can see the spread here. I had a blast styling this. First time ever to group all of the trend items in one shot. LOVE the way it turned out.
