alpaca (and a little llama) love

if there was ever a person… I inherited my workaholic, over committed, too many irons in the fire, only the best neurosis from I feel fairly certain it is my aunt – and I mean that in the best way and feel fortunate to have it (most days). She is one of the most accomplished people I know and I admire her beyond words. She’s always loved to knit and a couple/three years ago she and her husband, David (both work full time+) decided to in there “spare time” to ya know, get a few dozen (currently 60) alpacas and start a fiber mill. She doesn’t do anything small, she’s a “doer” not a dabbler.” Today she has website for the fiber mill (Shenandoah Fiber), a website for the sweaters (Provenance Mill), a small crew of help and 50 knitters all over the US knitting the sweetest, softest most Ralph Lauren-esque baby sweaters you have ever seen. Bret and I finally made it up to Virginia this fall and I had to share a few pics. It’s an amazingly organic/super technical/serious equipment experience. I had no idea but  you can not be allergic to Alpaca and apparently is known as the “Hair of the Angels.”

sidenote: We also stayed at the cutest bed and breakfast Applewood Inn and Llama Treking. And yep, we did the llama trek.

*This is an old building from the Civil War on the property where they currently live and where the alpacas are… Crazy, huh?

It all starts with these little guys. Each has a name, a color and apparently hair that fits their personality with names like: Cassanova, Flipper, Live Wire, Mercury and Pixel.

On to the big farmhouse (in progress) and the mill…
