ted who?

many of you… probably know of TED talks or conferences but there are still lots of really creative people who don’t and should. I was one of them a year ago. TED talks give the stage to brilliant minds and leaders in the fields of Technology Entertainment and Design for 18 minutes to talk about anything they want. The talks will typically get you to think differently about subjects you are familiar with and inspire you to revisit something in your own world. Above is a talk I enjoyed by Stefan Sagmeister, a well known graphic designer. As a graphic designer myself I get to hear talks like this all the time but what’s cool about TED is that like-minded people get to open their minds to other subjects they they would typically not get to hear about. For example Juan Enriquez was the first speaker at the TEDxSMU conference last Saturday and he spoke about the evolution of altering and reproducing (cloning) the human body and where that will take us in the future. He has a book called Homo Evolutis, Please meet the Next Human Species. It’s pretty mind boggling. Check out more TED talks here and let your mind get boggled a bit!

silastom_napkins_sun

we should throw an end of summer bash, yes?… something fabulous with spiked lemonade, cold delicious cucumber water and and array of adult popsicles don’t you think? Well if you are with me on this one — and despite the insane heat don’t want the summer to end either – then I’m recommending these super cute cocktail napkins by Silas Tom (aka my friend and talented graphic designer, Rob Wilson). Aren’t they fun? Take a look below for a couple of other adorable ones (baby shower designer sweetness) or you can see more napkins and his online greeting card collection here. Congrats Rob. Love summer, love you.

home21

what a way to celebrate… to be surrounded by lots of love, great friends, fabulous food and gorgeous letterpress. We were lucky enough to celebrate our friend Martha’s birthday at the new super cute studio of Missing Q Press. It was such a fabulous soirée I had to share. Oh yes ma’am. Magical, Martha style. Happy birthday my sweet friend and thank you for letting us share it with you!

wonderful wonderland

5

it’s like a fairytale… but no seriously, it really is. The other day I was at an event and saw Alicia and Adam from Bows and Arrows. She had a crown of flowers on and he a boutineer and I thought how lovely their lives must be to be surrounded by beautiful flowers all day, everyday and to be insanely creative on top of that. OF COURSE she would wear a crown of flowers?!? Why wouldn’t she?? Right? So today I give you a STUNNING mockup party/photoshoot by Adam and Alicia inspired by Alice in Wonderland. (DO NOT MISS the model’s eye makeup. What?!? Love.) If this doesn’t make you smile this week, I don’t know what will. Have a great day!

gold for the gathering

gold
i love to throw a party… Sadly it’s been a while since I’ve  had an all-out-over-the-top-no-detail-left- behind get together but parties are high on my list of things to obsess over. When my editor, Tracy, and I talked about the November issue of FD we decided it should sort of have an entertaining spin to it with Thanksgiving coming up. Of course I was happy to focus on the soirée scene.

So - confession - I’m still hooked on gold and brass. I keep thinking it will pass but for now I’m fully embracing it. I was told by someone selling china that gold was not “on trend” but I beg to differ. Go here to see the pieces I pulled for FD but I thought it would be fun to continue this story on the blog so see below for more shiny golden goodness that you might consider for your holiday hoorah.
