home21

and so little time… buckle up buttercup because spring is here and that means folks are buzzing about soaking up the fantastic weather! I’m beyond excited to share with you the perfect brunch that I indulged in courtesy of Two Hot Potatoes a couple of Sundays ago. TDF, I’m just sayin’. And, so I hear, super easy to make but let me tell you this, it was super easy to devour!! Put this one in your cookbooks friends and check out their foodie blog. These two lovely ladies have a big love for mouthwatering cuisine and life.

I know we all can’t wait to get to Sunday morning and whip up this yummy breakfast feast, but in the meantime you should definitely be aware of and check out all of this, all on Saturday: the White Rock Farmers MarketThe Dallas FleaDash Down Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Day run and parad; my crazy funny friend, comedian and singer/songwriter, Dave Little at Opening Bell and Tim is the DJ (aka Tim Flannery, talented creative director at NM and part time fab DJ) at Lee Harvey’s! Like I said busy busy busy…all good stuff so choose wisely or if you’re like me, attempt it all.

Happy sunny-days! Be sure to read below to get the details, photos and recipes from this savory spread.

the weather outside is frightful : part 9 of 14

but don’t worry little lovebirds… The tiny little cup of warm chicken broth goodness with miniature cheddar biscuit will warm you right up this Valentine’s Day. If you haven’t heard already The Zodiac on the 6th floor downtown Neiman Marcus is having a special brunch buffet similar the one they typically only exclusively run through the holidays. (you may remember that Bret and I kicked off our New Year’s Eve extravaganza there and loved every minute of it) If you don’t have plans already, I highly recommend it and promise you won’t be disappointed. It’s amazing food and a charmingly chic and historic atmosphere. Bret and I make a point when in New York to have a drink at the 7th floor Bergdorf Goodman cafe designed by Kelly Wearstler and we both think this is our Dallas version of that NYC favorite.

will you be my valentine? : part 1 of 14

final11

let the countdown begin…Blame it on being a newlywed. In the past I haven’t typically been a big Valentine’s day supporter but this year is special and I have received a couple of wedding submissions that are just adorable and all of that inspired me to go all romance, all the time — until Valentine’s Day.

First up is my latest story in the current issue of FD Luxe all about the traditional gift of love — chocolate. Check out the full story of my chocolate covered stakeout here. **I will have to say, this was a tough day at the office. Chris Plavidal shot this wonderfully graphic photo and we of course HAD to try all of them to make sure they were all as amazing as they looked. Each one was a little piece of heavenly goodness but hands down the Norman Love chocolates ROCK.  If you really want to impress your loved one with an absolutely gorgeous collection of interesting and succelent flavors I highly recommend that one from Neuhaus.

Also - special thanks to Joslyn from Simply Lovely for including me in her Blogger’s Favorites on Friday. A quick note of blogger’s top ten. Read the full post here.

chicken & waffles

home21

a little slice of fried heaven… I started the blog with the intention that it would be fun to tell people about things I love old and new. I wouldn’t call this one oldie but it’s a goodie. Hattie’s in Bishop Arts district still rocks my happy little food+interior loving world. The mouth watering food, the gorgeous space, the relaxed atmosphere…Southern. Comfort. Deliciousness. I think most people frequent Hattie’s for dinner and drinks — Fried green tomatoes or the the tomato bisque with mini grilled cheese but friends, let me tell you about the brunch. I haven’t been there for brunch in several years but I went this Sunday and people, …run, do not walk, to devour the chicken and waffles with red pepper maple glazed syrup. Oh yes, It’s as delightful as it sounds.

**side note + follow up to Hope for Haiti: THRILLED to tell you that Amos Ivey and several other Haitian adoptions were sped up as a result of the tragedy. Amos was brought to the US this Saturday and is now permanently with his family in Austin!! Wonderful news!!

good gracious it’s cold! I’m layered today…seriously, I look like a bag lady and I won’t blame you if you don’t stop to say hi but I can say that I am warm. In light of the weather in the teens today and this weekend I thought it might be nice to wrap up the weekend with something hot!! I searched for Mexican Hot Chocolate and found this one on Cowboys and Indians by Cowgirl Chef, Ellise Pierce — The Sassy, Saucy Culinary Capers of a Dallas Girl in Paris. Her blog is great. I have heard about it from many other Dallasites. It’s FULL of amazing recipes, gorgeous food and videos. I’m shamefully addicted to anything food, love watching people cook it and I love to eat it. Food network, food blogs, food in general…I’m a fan.

Cheers! Have a great chocolately warm weekend! (recipe below or visit the C&I original post here)

bring on the yum… I asked super talented state fair food champion, Lauren Berndt, to whip up anything she wanted for a little holiday treat for the blog. Lauren amazes me with her creativity in the food department some of her award winning delights are Mushroom Apple and Cranberry Stuffed Acron Squash, Cinnamon Jalapeno Pecan Brittle, Pumpkin Seed Flat Bread and my favorite, Maple Spam Brulée. This girl can bring on the tastebuds. I’m super excited that what she came up with is not only a RIDICULOUSLY delicious treat (I had to taste test!) but also can be given as a gift. It’s a cookie mix that is trés easy, you can package it adorably in a vintage Kerr bottle with tag + directions and voila! You have a tasty and fun gift!!  Happy eating!

does this look a donut to you?? I’m with ya, me neither — a chocolate dipped devil’s food donut topped so delightfully and decadently with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. WHOA.

I have passed by Yummy Donuts a million times but sadly have never stopped until last weekend with one of my dear friends and her adorable children. WHO KNEW?? If I had a clue what was in store I would have made it a point to put this on my weekend rotation a lot sooner. If you need an over the top treat pencil Yummy’s into your weekend and enjoy!!
