oh thank goodness

rue1

last night… Facebook and Twitter were all a buzz with the launch of Crystal Gentilello’s (Plush Palette) new shelter magazine RUE. I’m so excited for. She has been working so hard and ps - having a blast doing it!! Anyway - it looks like she’s got some pretty big hitters (Can’t say who yet but it’s huge). So last night when I saw all of the local press buzzing about it on Facebook I was THRILLED to see the transformed home of my sweet and uber talented friends Jamie Laubhan-Oliver and Larry Oliver. I launched my blog with their home and I’m so excited that Crystal is including them in the launch of her magazine (and not by my doing by the way, found via their very cool etsy store). The sneak peek looks completely different from when I was there a year ago. Can’t wait to see the whole house. I’m told there are TEN full features. Yessssssss. All this to say I know we’re SO happy for a new shelter mag. We NEED it!! Congrats to Crystal and her partner Ann Sage!

dwell with dignity update

pillow1

i owe you so many… updates on the Dwell with Dignity journey. I actually have three (maybe four!? eek!!) houses I need to share with you. The girls (Lisa and Kim) have been so busy doing good and moving into their new DWD house we just got caught up a few weeks ago. I always ask for the breakdown on the houses because it fascinates me how resourceful they are and what they accomplish in such a short time. Remember the DWD crew finds out less than a week before the family moves in who they are and what needs they have. Photos and details from their Citywalk house which was for a graduate of Interfaith housing and her six year old daughter. It turned out fabulously, so much fun. Also, so happy to report that DWD is the Hot Nonprofit in the August Hot Issue of FD Luxe! Congratulations!!

ommmm

channeling creative energy… Clearly I’m on an art kick the past few days but more to share. This weekend there are several little gallery openings and events. I love any kind of craft fair, art happening, class…whatever. I always feel inspired when I leave. Ready to go tackle a project. Here are a couple that I’m partial to because friends of mine are involved. Have a fantastic weekend and hope you can make some of these great events (if you live in the area!)

unexpected

beautiful2

this has been quite a week… I’ve often wondered how people who have blogs similar to mine handle these situations… personal, yet not really. I talk about places I see and people I enjoy and from time to time an update on my life (like getting married or launching the studio) but outside of that I don’t talk about personal struggles that all human beings have. I created the blog to be a creative outlet that is lovely, positive and hopefully inspirational. But I knew there would come a moment (and I’m sure there will be more) when it may be to tough to ignore the facts of life and just need a minute or feel the need to say something about it. The end of this week has been an overwhelming amount of unexpected and unfortunate news of friends and family. I am reminded of how fragile life really is. It was a tough one and a blog post about anything else doesn’t seem appropriate. So - tell people you love them, hug your pets and babies and parents, love the ones you see every day a little harder, don’t take anything for granted and take time to make that call to someone you haven’t talked to in a while or a fence you need to mend. Life is unpredictable, beautiful and short. Have a great weekend and I appreciate all of you so much!

(city) name in lights

dallasmain

hooray… Today my American Idol aka Grace (we all want to be her best friend, don’t we?) posted the Dallas Design Guide that I helped her update a few months back. I don’t know if you all use the d*s city guides but I use them religiously. In fact, I used the San Antonio one this weekend! I could have gone on for days about places to eat, drink, shop and stay in Dallas but tried to edit it to my absolute musts if you’re in the city. As an avid user of these guides I think it’s too over whelming to have too much and typically not enough time. Thus, I prefer the well edited list (I mean, it’s still plenty long and will keep you busy for a full weekend). As I say, we are super fortunate to have many great stores and admittedly the one thing I heavily edited was the restaurants only because it was getting so long and unless you live here I think you wouldn’t know where to begin. If you don’t live here you should know, we have some amazing food…if you ever need a food recommendation in addition to the guide just email me. I’m happy to throw out a few good ones. Also, super big thank you to sweet Grace for including me today in Sneak Peek of Best Offices!! Hope you all had a great holiday!
